Simon Bridges is well known in animal welfare circles for his legislative work to protect our most vulnerable friends- our animals great and small. Colin was hosting Simon in Blenheim and was grateful to the Marlborough SPCA for extending such a warm welcome.
One of the many issues discussed at the meeting was the increasing number of kittens and puppies and the de-sexing of these animals to reduce the number of unwanted, abandoned and stray cats and dogs. This is a local as well as a nationwide problem.
Marlborough SPCA are currently offering free de-sexing vouchers for cats in our region. To date this year 507 cats have been de-sexed through this initiative, at a cost $30k to the SPCA. The SPCA hopes that the numbers of surplus kittens in the coming years will steadily decline.
