Colin King opens conservancy office

The new Waimakariri area office of the Department of Conservation, Rangiora, was officially opened by Colin King MP and the Hon. Kate Wilkinson, Minister of Conservation, on Friday 12 February.

Mr King says the opening was a significant event for him as the majority of the conservancy area falls within the Kaikoura electorate; there are now three conservancies within the Kaikoura electorate.

The new conservancy office will oversee conservation land that stretches from Arthur’s Pass in the south, north to the Richmond Ranges.

“Whilst there are ongoing issues about how we manage conservation land with the challenges posed by wilding pines, stoats, cats and other pests, we must not lose sight of the fact that conservation land offers magnificent vistas and is to be treasured by all New Zealanders,” says Mr King.

“We now eagerly await the opening of the St James cycleway at Hanmer!”
