Ideas for Havelock Heritage Trail take shape

The Minister of Arts and Heritage, Chris Finlayson, spent time discussing a proposed Havelock Heritage Trail with interested parties during a recent trip to Marlborough.

The proposed trail will recreate the pathway of the original European surveyor, Mr Barnicoate, who walked to Havelock to meet with Rangitane.

Mr Finlayson intends to return to Marlborough soon in order to catch up with progress on plans for the trail which will take walkers from Cullen Point, over the causeway and into Havelock.

In the meantime Colin King has a scheduled meeting with the Department of conservation’s Top of the South curator, Neil Clifton, who is working with the ideas borne out by Havelock’s 2020 working group to lift the profile and number of points of interest in Havelock.

Ideas for the Havelock Heritage Trail under discussion clockwise from bottom left: Michael Bradley (Rangitane), Chris Finlayson, Colin King, Paul Millen (chairman of Cycle and Walk Marlborough), and Councillor Graeme Barsanti.
